How to Keep tokidoki LeSportsac Bags Clean
Spray Scotch Guard on each bag before you use it (on the nylon parts only). Just make sure the bag is REALLY clean before using Scotch Guard, or it will stick to any dirt and make it look worse. Each spray application will keep your bag pretty dirt-resistant for up to 6 months. Remove the qee and chain from the bag or cover them up before spraying the Scotch Guard on, and try not to hit the leather and hardware (it’s not the end of the world if you do though, just wipe it off with a clean sponge).
To wipe off dirt, Mr. Clean Magic Erasers work well - they take some patience and persistence if your bag is really dirty though. You can also use a tiny bit of Woolite and a soft sponge and/or Tide pens for cleaning Tokidoki bags.
You can find Scotch Guard, Mr. Clean Magic Erasers, Woolite, and Tide pens in the cleaning products aisle of any supermarket.
Read through the comments to this post for additional cleaning suggestions and discussion of what does and does not work.

Hi!
I absolutely love your Tokidoki blog!
I’d like to point out that inside the tokidoki bags, it says (on the back of the made in china tag):
DO NOT WASH
WIPE WITH MOIST CLOTH
DO NOT IRON
DO NOT BLEACH
I tend to use baby wipes to wipe off dirt and such.

i like to use the tide to go pens blot it on the stain rub a lil bit then wipe off with a clean towel & its like new!
i love the site by the way!!!!

July 24th, 2007 at 6:06 pm
If your bag is still very clean, then go ahead and Scotch Guard it.
July 29th, 2007 at 10:20 am
How long do we have to let it sit with scotch guard before using it? Thanks
July 29th, 2007 at 10:27 am
Q - until it’s dry.

I just got my first tokidoki bag [Pirata Gioco] and the FIRST thing that I did was head to Target to get Scotchguard. I wrapped up the hardware and the straps and sprayed away.
At first, I was a little worried that the Scotchguard-y scent would stick around - not fun - but since spraying my bag late last night, the scent has disappeared ^_^. I’m half-tempted to throw some dirt at my bag just to test the Scotchguard-y-ness, but I’m not THAT crazy.
Good luck!

I have the Adios black and white bag and for about 6 months How do i clean it once it has been used and is getting dingy..
September 2nd, 2007 at 7:16 pm
Scotch Guard is a fantastic Idea! Good thinking! Not only will it protect it from getting dirty stuff with Scotch Guard tends to be more water resistant!! Thanks for the tip!
September 3rd, 2007 at 12:00 pm
Michelle - no, the color will not fade.
crystal - you will find your answer in the second paragraph of this post.
Susie - you’re welcome!
September 10th, 2007 at 9:44 am
I used quilters fabric protector on my Adios Star handbag.

Do the leather bits need to be treated in any way? I live in Seattle, and I don’t want the constant drizzle making the leather look gross. Thanks.
September 28th, 2007 at 1:55 pm
vpop - The leather does get water stained if it gets wet, so my guess would be yes, although I am not familiar with leather treatment options.

im loving this site! its so helpful =)

I just got a bianco and it got a little bit of dirt stain on it after 2 hours of using it! But I came back and used all the products mentioned in this post and the bag is good to go. I sprayed scotch guard on the straps though to prevent them from dirtying.. Is that alright?
October 9th, 2007 at 12:06 pm
Natalie - yes, that is a good idea to do!
October 14th, 2007 at 3:44 am
Hi All,
i’ve just found this web.
I’ve one tokidoki but there are no scotch guard & Mr. clean available in my country. Can i apply dryclean for my bag ?
Kindly suggest …

What exactly does Tide To-Go Pens have in them? Do they have anything that would harm tokidoki bags? And do they really work well? I have a L’amore Stellina, and some of the edges are really dirty, and I was wondering if the Tide pens fade the color or something.
October 17th, 2007 at 10:09 pm
Tide pens don’t really help much for the edges of my bianco stellina. I’ve decided to stop using it so frequently because Singapore is humid and sweat makes the white edges paltry :/
October 20th, 2007 at 2:19 pm
Hmm, if Tide pens don’t work very well, would scrubbing with a sponge and some soap+water help? Again, I don’t like the idea of putting cleaning products with chemicals and stuff in them on my bag…

I have had my tokidoki bag for a while (citta buon viaggio) and it has accumulated a lot of dirt. I never had the chance to scotch guard it and today, a bird pooped on me and my bag. I tried the Mr. Clean eraser and it got some of the dirt out but not all and most of the poop but not all. Is there anything else I can used to take these things out? I’m so sad, this is my favorite purse!
October 23rd, 2007 at 8:31 pm
janelle (and KT and natalie) - Have you tried using a little bit of Woolite on a soft, damp sponge?
November 2nd, 2007 at 4:16 pm
Has anyone tried to dry clean their bag? I was wondering about that.
November 3rd, 2007 at 12:39 pm
Orangepop - I would imagine that dry cleaning would ruin your bag and set the stains in quite thoroughly instead of getting it truly clean. I would NOT recommend it.
November 4th, 2007 at 7:36 pm
A cat sprayed on my bag and it stinks. Is there any way to clean it and get the smell out without ruining the bag? How about dry cleaning?
November 4th, 2007 at 7:53 pm
Mia - See the comment immediately above yours re: dry cleaning. To get rid of the smell, I suggest that you buy a bottle of Nature’s Miracle.

Hi, I got a dime sized oil stain that rubbed off of my hands onto the leather connector of my Ciao Ciao. I’ve tried every which way to clean it off with water, detergent, and alcohol but nothing works. Now I have a spot on the leather part!! Do you recommend a professional leather cleaner or do I have to live with this distasteful stain on my fave Citta Rosa Ciao Ciao?? Please let me know. Thanks!!
November 7th, 2007 at 11:41 pm
I tried scrubbing off the ugly brown dirt stains on my L’amore Stellina, and it worked! I used a Clorox disinfecting wipe. I was cleaning my desk with a wipe when I thought of using it. It took some elbow grease to get out the dirt, but I’m happy with the results. Now my Adios and Ciao Ciao are no longer suffering under the evil layer of dirt that used to be on them.
November 16th, 2007 at 2:12 pm
Can any of you give suggestions as to how to even out the wrinkles on these bags? Thanks in advance!
November 21st, 2007 at 5:25 pm
as i was inspecting my vacanze gioco i did notice that the red dye (in the ornament bomb, cactus friend, red carrot nose on snowman, and the text tokidoki for lesportsac) bled a little as a result of scotch guard application. it didn’t happen to any of the other bags i sprayed. maybe it was because of the nylon it was printed on. it’s thicker my other vacanze bags.
January 30th, 2008 at 8:18 pm
Lola…sorry to hear about the oil stain. I don’t think there’s a way to get that out. I remember when purchasing my Coach bags and LVs the sales person warn against picking up the bag right after applying hand lotion for the oil/grease will make the leather change color.
February 2nd, 2008 at 1:10 am
the woolite thing did not work on my bag..
is there any ideas??
i m staying out of u.s and i can’t find the cleaning pens in my country.
February 13th, 2008 at 12:40 am
Hi, I’ve had my L’amore Campeggio since last May and it’s taken a bit of beating since I’ve had it and I wished I had thought to scotch guard it. Over the summer it got some blue jean stains on the back. I’m quite shocked it even got them in the first place considering they were an old pair I had washed dozens of times so for them to still have ink rubbing off is a little ridiculous. I found this while searching for ways to get it out and I was wondering if it’d be okay to directly apply this and just hand wash the affected areas.

rainie - If none of the ideas in the OP or the comments here worked for you then unfortunately I am out of ideas.
Sherrie - I would try Mr. Clean Magic Eraser before trying something that sounds (to me) that risky.
February 23rd, 2008 at 2:09 pm
Hi! I sprayed my original print bella bella with Scotchguard without testing it at all for colorfastness, and all the Sandys now have yellowish auras!
Any ideas on how to treat the color bleeding?
March 4th, 2008 at 1:16 am
I tried to clean my L’amore Gicco with the Magic Eraser, since I haven’t clean it for like over half year of use, it doesn’t seem like the Magic Eraser is working at all, it got some dirt off though. I am thinking would those moist wipes with soaps works on the bag?(ex. Clorox disinfecting wipe) since it does have some cleaning agent in it, and how can I clean the leather part of the bag~it looks very yellow brownish on my L’amore now, which is kinda gross. >.
March 4th, 2008 at 7:51 pm
Fan - Rebekah’s comment above mentions success with a Clorox wipe. I haven’t needed to clean any of my leather yet, but I assume something like Saddle Soap should work.
March 15th, 2008 at 9:52 am
hey everyone!
i’m a huge fan and i own 13 bags.
As soon as i get a new bag i Scotch Guard it and it keeps it clean for quite some time however, i’ve noticed that my black Lululemon sweater has rubbed off on my conguro and my vacanze buon viaggio.
So i tried using Oxy clean stain removal and it works GREAT! =) all you have to do is spray it a bit and rub it in a little, let it sit for 10 mins, then scrub it with any detergent. I suggest using woolite for dark coloured bags such as the vacanze print. And use regular woolite or even sunlite for the lighter prints. and then once again you spray it once it’s dry.
This process takes approximaltey 2 days because of the drying part. You also want to make sure that you leave the Scotch Guard to dry about 10 hours before using the bag again or it wont completely soak in =)
HOPE THIS HAS HELPED EVERYONE ^_^
March 15th, 2008 at 10:07 am
OH wait! one thing i forgot to mention was that if you notice that when using the Oxy clean, that you have to scrubb it with a sponge and rince it off and if you notice that the stain is not entirely gone yet, THEN use the detergents =) but overall, simply using the Oxy clean will keep your bags looking BRAND NEW!! =D =D =D
the exact brand is…
“OXI CLEAN Laundry stain remover” it’s in a blue bottle and has a yellow nozzle =)
hope all turns out well ^_^
May 4th, 2008 at 3:23 pm
I have a L’amore Giocco and it has a couple of dirt stains on it cuz I accidentally rubbed it against my car =x and a couple of pen stains. Would Oxi Clean help clean it? My friend used Oxi Clean I think and her purse looked brand new, but she said she had to do some other cleaning on it. Let me know what was the best way!

Maria - Read the two comments directly above yours.
The information in the original post and the rest of the comments should also help you out - give ‘em a read.

I was reading this blog because I wanted to know how to clean my tokidoki bags. I did not have any of the cleaning items suggested on this blog. However, I do have a six year old son whom seems to get everything dirty and what always worked for that was shout stain remover. And so I used it on my pirata ciao ciao and crossed my fingers. It seems to be working well with no adverse reactions so far. However I do have a couple of minor ink stains that are still apart to me but not visible to others. Shout stain remover and a soft cotton cloth, try it.
May 16th, 2008 at 1:38 am
sorry my typing is not that good. The second to last sentence in my previous posting should read.
However I do have a couple of minor ink stains that are still apparent to me but not visible to others.
June 4th, 2008 at 9:10 pm
hello again!
Maria and Quel:
i definitely suggest using Oxi clean because it amazingly got an oil stain out of my Cita Rosa Campeggio!! =O
so give it a try and lemme know how it turns out.
One thing to keep in mind is that when drying ur light coloured bags such as the Bianco print, make sure you DON’T dry it in the sun and ONLY use the oxi clean (no other detergents) or it’ll turn a kind of yellow. Either that or DON’T spray the Scotch Guard if you know that the product is still wet!!!!!
=D
June 6th, 2008 at 6:56 pm
there’s more then a couple types of scotch guard sprays, so which is the best in your experience?
June 6th, 2008 at 7:09 pm
chinabayou - As far as I know there is only one type of Scotch Guard spray that is suitable for use on nylon.
June 6th, 2008 at 7:29 pm
tokidoki blog and chinabayou - There are two different types of ScotchGard that can be used on nylon. I know now because I bought the wrong one tonight. I bought the one called “ScotchGard Outdoor Water Shield with Mildew Block.” That one can be used on nylon things like tents and jackets. I’m sure it can be used on Tokidoki purses as well, but it’s only going to make the purse water repellent and therefore mildew repellent, but it’s probably not going to repel stains. The one that I need to buy is called “ScotchGard Fabric and Upholstery Protector.” You can find what the bottle looks like at this link (which also states where to buy it): http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/Scotchgard/Home/ Applications/Apparel/Do-It-Yourself/Fabric_Protector/
June 7th, 2008 at 4:46 pm
Well, I was successful at finding the correct ScotchGard at both Wal-Mart and Target. But you’ve really got to LOOK to find it!
June 7th, 2008 at 4:58 pm
Yea, that is the one I got too. I found it at wal-mart and I agree with Lorelei, I really had to look at which one to get. The one I got said for purses, etc. so that is how I knew. I had an old one from before but good thing I sprayed it first (and not on the bag) it had a yellow residue so I just went out to buy a new one. I figure it was worth the investment!
June 17th, 2008 at 2:08 am
yeaa i got the fabric protector Scotch Guard and it works perfectly fine =)
has anyone else tried the Oxi clean?? hope it turned out well ^_^

ahhh i should have taken more care of my tokidoki bag…
right now, i guess it’s from wear and tear.. one part of the leather looks kinda scratched or the paint is coming off… probably can’t do anything about that (can you?) and i’d like to take wrinkles out of my bag (it’s a gioco) is there any way i can do that? should i iron it? ok thanks
July 7th, 2008 at 10:05 am
anything to help wrinkles?!=(
July 17th, 2008 at 3:49 pm
Are there any suggestions on how to remove pen stains on the inside of a pirata mama mia? The marks are on the nylon.
July 17th, 2008 at 11:44 pm
Yanique - Mr. Clean Magic Erasers are good -I’ve used them to remove Sharpie marks before - it takes some time but it works…even a light detergent with water might do the trick.
July 18th, 2008 at 11:00 am
Thanks so much!!

I’ve never had a Tokidoki bag before buying the Carnival Carezza. I noticed a couple comments above regarding color bleeding when Scotch Guard was applied to a couple bags. Do you think that’s a result of (1) too heavy application (2) wrong Scotch Guard type (3) the specific print in question or (4) a full moon?
Has anyone Scotch Gaurded their new Carnival bags? I would DIE if I sprayed Scotch Guard on my new bag and it bled, even if it was a small patch test on the bottom… I’d still freak out.
