Kaiju for Growups tokidoki Vinyl Toys Spotted in Chicago
Ria let me know that while she was at Rotofugi’s Micro Ninja Release Party in Chicago a couple weeks ago, she spotted the two new vinyl toys designed by Simone Legno for Wonderwall’s Kaiju for Growups series for sale. She took this photo of them - which I have to admit is the first that I had seen or heard of these toys:

Each vinyl toy is 6 inches tall and retails for $75 - the pink colorway is limited to 200 pieces, and the gold colorway is limited to 100 pieces.

Even though I like Simone’s work.. i think that for 75 dollars is a bit much… the packaging is not even appealing. I’ve seen these vinyls before, they have little magma monsters and such, but I think they hope people will flock over and buy them just because they are limited in quantity. The pink one is okay looking, but the other ones that i mentioned are definitely ugly and not worth $5 dollars in my opinion @_@…

I agree that $75 is a bit much for any toy but I think they’re awesome. They’re quality work and a lot of people in the vinyl community collect Kaiju because they enjoy the art and different figures for their collections. It could do w/ the fact that they’re limited but they’re also limited because they’re such great pieces.
To each their own though. The same thing can be said about $100+ bags. A lot of people flock toward them because they’re limited. Others flock because they like looking at it. It’s still an insane amount you’d spend on a bag that costs probably $5 to make.
I really like it when artists try branching out of their safe zone also. In this case, Simone’s repetition of cute characters sometimes borders on overwhelming gaggy cuteness. They’re adorable mind you but at the same time I want to see him do more as an artist (Like some of the paintings and stuff on his personal site).

-clutches bags- Well said though, i totally agree
I always get comments from my parents “oh how much was that, i wouldn’t buy it for 5 dollars” “well good… it was 92…” XD

are you supposed to play with them? If you’re not supposed to, then it’s kind of useless. At least you can use bags. I understand that hand made stuff is more valuable, but the figures are ugly.

To those who keep saying they’re ugly: kaiju - monster/beast
They’re collectible art. I can also say $2000 paintings are useless to put on a wall, but if a person loves the artist and the art/concept, that person will pay for it. I’m not into these things, but if you’re a collector, you wouldn’t have problems with it. Just my 2 cents.

I think I saw the pink one at the SDCC this year. I think they’re kinda cute, actually. And it’s horrible cause I have a couple of these Kaiju already… so i’m tempted… but I think I’d rather get that tokidoki watch…

Frozen Empire Toys has them for $64. I have ordered from them before and they run a great operation, quick to reply and quick to ship, and prices are very reasonable, usually a few dollars less than other toy places.

they are available on the Yoyamart website. but just like everyone says, they’re not that attractive even if they are collectible. but at least the boys got something to play with. LOL

I think that it is not so cute, but I doubt that
gold color kaiju were limited to 100 pieces.
I see in stock in any online shop in Japan,
and in USA.
Maybe they are fakes????
