An anonymous reader just pointed out a post on ToysREvil announcing the upcoming release of a new vinyl toy called Miao the Lucky Cat, who comes paired with a smaller character called Mousubi. The 7″ tall figure was sculpted by Zakka, the color artwork and package design was done by Simone of tokidoki, and the figure will be produced by Zakkamono. This collaboration will be limited to 500 pieces, with a tentative release date of April 2008. No pricing info is available yet. Miao will retail for $80 plus shipping and handling (thanks, LMJ, for the looking into this!). Here is a picture, courtesy of ToysREvil – they have a couple more up as well:

This looks just like my favorite Tokidoki character- the kitty from pirata! I think this may need to be my first vinyl purchase!!

call me naive, but i have the other tokidoki toys that are $30 or less and thought this would be in that price range. but then again this is a collaboration toy and i vaguely knew those were on the expensive side.

i actually saw this collab awhile ago, in fact you can see an article here at vinylpulse:http://www.vinylpulse.com/2007/08/tokidoki-x-zakk .html . there was another website too. i’ll try to find it. i think they listed a price for it. i do remember it might on the high side, so guessing $80 seems about right.

i agree with Jenn. also, there are more expensive brands out there, that i won’t name, that are in price ranges like $1,000+ for a bag and $5,000 for a piece of outerwear. go find those blogs/forums.
Carly may I ask you then why are you on this board in the first place since it is for almost many items that are ridiculous in price….. I in no way believe many of the items that are offered by Tokidoki should go for the prices they do and are totally higher just because of them being a name brand…that’s what makes the USA the USA….. There is nothing wrong with purchasing something for more then it is worth if it makes you happy….. You can not place a price on that…. We all know that if Joe Schmoe made the same exact item it would sell for like $20 if that…..But because it is made by Simone it is in the $80 range…. That’s the way it is…… If a person chooses to buy it that is their business….. It is their money and their choice what they desire to spend it on…If it means no rent money and less food and not paying utility bills then so be it….However, give the people on this board credit… I am sure if they can not afford it they wouldn’t purchase it. They aren’t that naive …I am sure if money was needed for the essentials they would not purchase this toy….

I agree with you about the pricing by the way…. But like I stated to each his own….We all have our little demons…… and I am one that is not buying this item…..Not because I can not afford it but because I choose not to…it is not what I am into….. But I do have my little demons that I will spend money on from designers just because they are designers….and I know that every time I open my wallet for one of those items I am paying probably 10 times more then it is worth….. and you know it doesn’t bother me and it makes me or someone close to me feel good…… So where is the harm in that…..
Lastly, I am college educated with a masters in mathematics and Computers and I would agree that I am an American idiot by your definition and proud to be one……. God bless the country where someone can make a toy for a few cents and sell it for a lot of money and have “idiots” who will buy them….. But I bet you that person and the “idiots” that buy them are a lot happier then you are and do not worry about what their neighbor is spending their money on like you……. Bitterness and jealousy will eat you up…. be careful…..
