New Vinyl Toy from tokidoki x Zakkamono Collaboration
An anonymous reader just pointed out a post on ToysREvil announcing the upcoming release of a new vinyl toy called Miao the Lucky Cat, who comes paired with a smaller character called Mousubi. The 7″ tall figure was sculpted by Zakka, the color artwork and package design was done by Simone of tokidoki, and the figure will be produced by Zakkamono. This collaboration will be limited to 500 pieces, with a tentative release date of April 2008. No pricing info is available yet. Miao will retail for $80 plus shipping and handling (thanks, LMJ, for the looking into this!). Here is a picture, courtesy of ToysREvil - they have a couple more up as well:

This looks just like my favorite Tokidoki character- the kitty from pirata! I think this may need to be my first vinyl purchase!!

tokipoki - I am guessing it will cost $80-$90 but I wouldn’t be surprised at $100 either.
nyshopaholic - The Pirata kitty is one of my favorites too! I think Miao looks like Bruttino in a sumo suit.

call me naive, but i have the other tokidoki toys that are $30 or less and thought this would be in that price range. but then again this is a collaboration toy and i vaguely knew those were on the expensive side.

i actually saw this collab awhile ago, in fact you can see an article here at vinylpulse:http://www.vinylpulse.com/2007/08/tokidoki-x-zakk .html . there was another website too. i’ll try to find it. i think they listed a price for it. i do remember it might on the high side, so guessing $80 seems about right.
i’ll keep people posted when i find it.

Simone sounds more like a theif than an artist or businessman. Since when was a PLASTIC toy valued at $100? I understand vintage toys like barbie. Carly may I ask you then why are you on this board in the first place since it is for almost many items that are ridiculous in price….. I in no way believe many of the items that are offered by Tokidoki should go for the prices they do and are totally higher just because of them being a name brand…that’s what makes the USA the USA….. There is nothing wrong with purchasing something for more then it is worth if it makes you happy….. You can not place a price on that…. We all know that if Joe Schmoe made the same exact item it would sell for like $20 if that…..But because it is made by Simone it is in the $80 range…. That’s the way it is…… If a person chooses to buy it that is their business….. It is their money and their choice what they desire to spend it on…If it means no rent money and less food and not paying utility bills then so be it….However, give the people on this board credit… I am sure if they can not afford it they wouldn’t purchase it. They aren’t that naive …I am sure if money was needed for the essentials they would not purchase this toy….
I am sure that you have some interests and items that if you stated the price we would all say the same about you…. To each hs own….
I could also state that you seem bitter about life in general…..Perhaps you ought to do something about your own situation and get a better job or work more instead of sitting and reading blogs about toys you can not afford or choose not to purchase… Like I stated it seems funny that one with hardly the money to purchase items or who complains about them should be o this board at all….. I agree with you about the pricing by the way…. But like I stated to each his own….We all have our little demons…… and I am one that is not buying this item…..Not because I can not afford it but because I choose not to…it is not what I am into….. But I do have my little demons that I will spend money on from designers just because they are designers….and I know that every time I open my wallet for one of those items I am paying probably 10 times more then it is worth….. and you know it doesn’t bother me and it makes me or someone close to me feel good…… So where is the harm in that…..
Lastly, I am college educated with a masters in mathematics and Computers and I would agree that I am an American idiot by your definition and proud to be one……. God bless the country where someone can make a toy for a few cents and sell it for a lot of money and have “idiots” who will buy them….. But I bet you that person and the “idiots” that buy them are a lot happier then you are and do not worry about what their neighbor is spending their money on like you……. Bitterness and jealousy will eat you up…. be careful…..

By the way…if this starts to deteriorate into a bashing post I urge the administrator / moderator to strike my previous post….. I want this board to remain friendly and not turn into a place for bashing…. Perhaps I shouldn’t have posted the previous message but I believe what I stated was in no way a bashing…I believe it was a mesage to point out that items if sold for only there worth would be almost exclusively for free and cost nothing…. It’s all in the perspective of how you view life and the4 value of items in the world…… No one can choose what is right for anyone… Opinions can be expressed but in a manner where it doesn’t criticize others for their choices….. Don, I don’t think your comments were bashing at all. They were a perfectly legitimate response to someone who has posted now a total of 3 very bitter comments on this blog complaining about tokidoki’s prices & sizing and then starting in with the name-calling. While she is entitled to her opinion, if she continues to come here simply to dump on what the topic of this blog is about I will not feel bad at all about blocking her IP address from commenting again. From the sound of it, I’d be doing her a service.
And for the record to carly, this toy is also priced too high for me (although I *could* afford it, I choose not to) but somehow I just managed to state that without having a monster hissy fit and condemning everyone else who reads this blog in the process. I find that is the best manner to put forth one’s opinions if you want anyone to respect them or take them seriously.

Also in any collaboration, each company/trademark/whatever it is, is suppose to make money. Since it’s a collab between tokidoki and Zakkamono, they BOTH need to make money somehow. One company cannot have all the profits, so that’s why it may seem expensive.
But.. Girls and guys, I think we should understand carly is just looking out for us ;] You know.. since we all don’t make more than $100 in income and all for rent and food .. since we don’t have a job and don’t work hard for our money to be able to earn our just rewards. And c’mon, she doesn’t want us to eat our tokidoki toys because she knows how valuable it is to us! Isn’t that SWEET?!

I love the figure and wouldn’t mind spending 80.00 if I have it a the time. Sometimes I do wait for stuff to go on sale and other times I do pay the srp. I collect alot of action figures,statues,lithographs,giclees from Star Wars, Transformers, DC, Marvel ect you name it. Many people have laughed at me and my collection but hey when my star wars statue srp was 60.00 when I bought it and now it’s worked 10x the price well I laugh back heh heh. I have also seen many transformers action figures for insane prices but again there limited as for many collectible toys and the value can only go up so in the end it’s a great investment for anyone. Oh and just to add I love this blog and the people that read it because everyone is so friendly. It’s fun to read and post with others that share something in common that is fun.
