Should Sue Deface her tokidoki Diamond Necklace?
Sue from Canada just received her new tokidoki diamond necklace and commented with the scoop on it, which I am re-posting here - vote on if she should deface it by making the small diamonds into earrings or not!
I vote no, I think it is really cute as-is.
“Hey all - I *finally* got my DIAMOND necklace! So - here’s some info that might be of interest:
1) the necklace very long - like kinda gangstah!
2) the diamonds on the side (the little ones) do not have happy faces! In reality they have the somewhat irritated look on their face (like on the t shirt - where the mouth is straight and the eyes are more angry looking).
Personally I prefer that the big one is happy and the small ones are irritated - it’s more interesting. I mean the center of attention and the *jealous* sidekicks perhaps? Also - all the charms are double sided so if they flip, the same thing is on both sides.
P.S.: I know you’ll gasp at this but I was half contemplating removing the small ones and making them into earrings! I do that regularly with stuff so I can see how it would look kind of neat! Like a matching set.
At the same time - defacing a tokidoki collectors item *gasp*…. I dunno.”

I say, nay.

I say, do it!

I say, Nah…

I say nope, cuter like it is.

On a Tokidoki necklace there is normally around 2 items on it - the main character and the heart/crossbones logo. If you removed the 2 diamonds it wouldn’t look empty but if the necklace was mine I’d leave it how it is. I don’t think I could bring myself to deface a Tokidoki item unless I mutiples, eg - if I had another diamond necklace!

I would do it as long as I was able to put them back on again.

I like it the way it is, the diamonds are all so cute~ ^^ So I say don’t do it.

I say change it…its your necklace! I design jewelry so I know how easy it is to put them back if you dont like them! Besiides the necklace is kinda long.

matching earring/necklace sets are gross, so i say nay -unless you wear them separately.

i think it would look really cute as earrings! you’ll have a nice, unique set!

I say go for it! The Hello Kitty necklace is also really long and I’m thinking about taking it apart too - the charms are all attached by split rings so are easy to take off and put back on (or get replacements) if you change your mind.

they make diamond earrings very similar to those now!

ha ha i know what you mean. i have never owned a tokidoki necklace, but quickly picked up the hello kitty one. I was surprised at the size when I got it. I took a picture and sent it to my fiance via text and he replied “nice bling” so yes I also feel “gangstah” when I wear it too. I wish it wasn’t as big and not as long. I guess they do this to make it unisex?
But I say go for it and make earrings!!!

I have the Fantasmino necklace, and i found a good way to shorten it like the model wearing on the picture :).
Unfortunately this does require a bit of dexterity, but it’s nice effect when you want to ‘layer’ necklaces.
Take the clasp and find the spot where you like the length, then gently open the clasp open and set it over the horizontally link, and let it go gently. The link acts as a ‘wedge’ between the top and bottom of the clasp, and is pretty sturdy — (lasted through me and a club escapade). I’m tugging on it right now and it’s still pushing through.
Even if you do manage to get it snagged, it falls through the clasp and acts like a slipknot? (Is that what it’s called?) so it ’stops’ at the rignt anyways.

its your to keep. do what YOU want to do with it.
i won several toki jewelry “lot” auction on ebay and my daughter did the very same thing with a couple of the items she had. i personally liked what she did.

I’d do it! I had planned on buying one of the adios star bracelets to make a necklace and earrings out of!
You could always buy an extra one to ‘collect’…
=D

I say go for it, it’s your necklace! I got my tokidoki hello kitty necklace just recently in the mail too and was surprised how long it was. I usually don’t wear that kind of jewelry so I too felt gangstah…so i’m glad i’m not the only one!

i bought a tokidoki playground bracelet and took it apart to make several necklaces for myself and daughters!
it’s yours and I think you should do whatever you want with it!

Please no!!!! No No No!!!

Joanne - that’s brilliant - I would have done the same! I make jewellery as well so I know I could put them back on (I can mark which links I took them from). I make pendants from cell phone charms too!

I would say do it if you don’t want to spend the money on the earrings… but the way they are on the necklace is really cute too….

Okay - it’s official!! I made the earrings with the angry diamonds and wear them EVERY DAY!!! I have had SO many comments on them
I also wear the necklace now because it’s more manageable. I took off the skull and crossbones and moved it farther up on the one side like all the other necklaces.
I will send pics asap!
For all those considering angry diamond earrings, they will be very big as studs (the way they are sold as earrings) so for the extra few bucks I would suggest buying the NECKLACE and making dangles. It took me all of 5 minutes with two pairs of needle nosed pliers.
The metals used in the jewelery are easy to manipulate but also quite sturdy. I was able to close the rings perfectly with no problems.
