tokidoki x Yahoo! Go Purple

A representative from Yahoo! just sent me some info on the new tokidoki x Yahoo! Go Purple collaboration: tokidoki and Simone Legno are collaborating with Yahoo! to create an exclusive purple line including t-shirts for men, women, juniors and babies. Items are available only at startwearingpurple.com, a site dedicated to a grassroots Yahoo! campaign that encourages people to embrace the color and spirit of purple.

Here are some peeks at the tokidoki for Yahoo! product photos (the first t-shirt is available now on startwearingpurple.com, the second one is coming soon):

OMG!!, Purple is my FAVORITE color!!, this line is perfect for me!

  2. Grace says:

I love the purple Sady t-shirt! Its adorable and I loved the colours, but I’m kind of turned off about how Yahoo is just claiming the colour purple as their’s because they accidentally painted their walls wrong, like they just discovered it and now its their trademark. The movie from the link was a complete commercial turn off =/

  3. nxdlamb says:

it looks like that purple sandy tee is already available. i can’t wait to see the men’s tees!!

  4. Maggie says:

That is the most bizarre thing I have ever read. Yahoo? Purple? Wha? I even called my husband over for this (his comment, after laughing: “That doesn’t seem…very…real….”).

    Uh but yeah. They’re cute.

  5. gwenny says:

I love the first shirt! I just wish it were longer like the eco shirts

  6. lupe says:

    Hmmm…
i love tokidoki, i love the gogol bordello purple song….but i don’t really care for Yahoo.

Reminds me of the Eaton’s aubergine commercials.

  7. Kathy says:

    YES YES YES YES!!!!!!!!

    My wish has come true!!!
I love tokidoki and I love purple!!! I noticed two weeks ago that there weren’t any purple toki clothes. I thought it kind of sucked because purple is a beautiful color. :D DD

  8. amy says:

the cactus sandy shirt looks great and i tried to find out the price on the yahoo site – which visually looks nice, but how can anyone navigate that? the flash takes a long time to load. ya i agree – i’m not a huge fan of the yahoo logo on the shirt. i’d buy it if it was much cheaper than the other tshirts – but that’s doubtful.

  9. Amy – The purple Sandy shirt is $30. (Flash makes me bonkers as well.)

  10. amy says:

oh wow – thanks for the quick reply! :)

  11. rl says:

i love tokidoki and i love purple, but im very turned off with the yahoo logo as well. what’s up with yahoo and trying to “own” the colour purple

  12. Tara C says:

What?!?! Sell out. Who does a collaboration with an internet search engine. And Gogol bordello? too strange. I like purple and love tokidoki but will not be buying or wearing anything with the yahoo logo.

  13. LOLZ. Hrmmmm okay? Yay purple… but yahoo? c’mon mang whats up with that?

  14. ciNNie says:

the t-shirt is $30 and the shipping to Hawaii is $19.45..total cost $49.45! i love saNdy and the purple is quite awesome buuuut…i agree, yahoo?! woulda still bought it if the shipping wasn’t almost as much as the t-shirt itself.

  15. ashley says:

why are so many people hating on yahoo! ? what did they do wrong? i don’t think they’re ‘owning’ the color; the website actually says it’s their ‘unofficial’ color. simone has done so many collabo’s so what’s wrong with one more?

    i dont get it..

  16. Alice says:

cute…The maker of this Tshirt is different from Tokidoki’s own manufacutre line, I wonder how they fit. I don’t own any american apparel clothes.

  17. ashley says:

Alice – I have a few American Apparel shirts and I’d say they’re almost the exact fit as the tokidoki tees

  18. Tara d. says:

i’m with ashley. i love Yahoo! and i’ve been with them for years. i see this as another collabo, just like all the others: Fornarina, Hello Kitty, etc. it only makes sense for Yahoo! to be on the products. duh!!

…anyways, i heart purple!! so i’m definitely lovin’ this line. also, i’m glad that Simone is switching to a USA brand to manufacture the clothing. i don’t own AA so i’m curious to what the fit is also.

please post in the the “reference” pages to all who buy this line. TIA! :)

  19. Brenda says:

I think the purple shirt is very awesome :D

  20. Tiff says:

I’m lovin the color. I don’t really care for the yahoo logo though, and the shipping is a little outta control.

  21. I agree with Ashley and Tara d. too, it’s not like Yahoo! is any more commercial than Hello Kitty or even LeSportsac, IMO. Although it would have been nice if the company logos could have been limited to JUST the heart & crossbones and the Y! in a circle rather than repeated a second time spelled all the way out under the designs. I can see why some people aren’t really feeling that.

  22. michiko_x says:

I agree with the other Yahoo! fans. I have friends who work at Yahoo! and IMO I think it is a great collaboration. I am a graphic designer that does work for a lot of various companies and I know that a lot of major corporations “own” their own Pantone colors. Its all about brand recognition. A very good friend of mine (who’s husband works at Yahoo!) surprised me this morning with one of the purple shirts and it is awesome! It seems that the fit of the shirts are a lot like the other tokidoki clothing, made a bit on the small side. I was also surprised to find that the inside of the back of the shirts have lots of little character designs as well (where a tag would normally be).

  23. Kristina says:

This is a bizarre and interesting collaboration, and I like it!

Aaaaaaand the yahoo site doesn’t work on Firefox 3.0.

  24. Megan says:

This post is unrelated to the tokidoki x yahoo collaboration except that it also refers to a new product on tokidoki.it; There are tokidoki cell phone wallpaper designs available on playphone.com/tokidoki. They are really cute. Too bad you need a monthly subscription to order anything off that website.

  25. annie says:

    what am i not getting?

i think the stuff is cute and all of that…but…purple?

this isn’t for a charity, or to promote anything…except a color.

there is a large group of people at yahoo! that are EXTREMELY overpaid and understimulated.

i would never in a million years buy into this crap.

    i’m actually pissed off.

  26. Andy says:

I love the purple theme… But I”m not really digging the whole Yahoo! thing.

Plus, $30 seems kind of expensive for a normal t-shirt… And I’ve spent too much on tokidoki apparel already.

  27. Lashonne says:

    PURPLE! I LOVE PURPLE (:
    ..but the yahoo…

  28. happysmoke says:

if any one noticed MOST of tokidoki is collaborations…kid robot, lesportsac, smash box, fornanrina(list goes on)…did not say ALL.

$30 expensive for tee cos it says yahoo but $50 for eco shirts okay? hmm?

gee what’s the big deal? All tokidoki is overpriced ($30+ tee shirts,$70 sweaters, need I mention purse prices) but it’s so fun trying to get and save money for the stuff.

Everyone’s entitled to their opinions but I haven’t seen so many negative comments on this blog since that carly person was stalking it.

  29. Kitsugar says:

    YAY Purple XD

  30. Janette says:

I don’t get the whole purple thing. I watched the flash thing on the site but I was more confused. Would I be making a stand wearing this?? It’s a cute shirt but I feel the spelled out yahoo logo on the front would take away from it. People would automatically notice the logo and would probably ask why it’s on a shirt with a cute character on it. Just the Y would have been fine. I like google ^__^. Anywho still glad Tokidoki is still expanding.

  31. ashley says:

when did this ‘carly’ start stalking? which post?!

looks like i’m ‘stalking’ too, but i can’t help it when there are new bits of info about tokidoki all the time!!!

    C=

and i could see people not wanting the ‘Y!’ and just the cute characters/designs, but i guess if you like the design for itself, it shouldn’t matter much, right?

  32. Ashley – You are definitely not stalking! Carly was a first-time commenter who started posting in the “New Vinyl Toy from tokidoki x Zakkamono Collaboration” post back in February just to go postal about the price of the toy. (However I think that Elle’s meltdown in July totally beat Carly for negativity. :P )

  33. Rebekah says:

tokidoki x Yahoo? Wow, strange collaboration. Cute shirt, though!

  34. annie says:

LMAO! I love how you have the meltdowns documented and catalogued by date!

    I freaking love this site.

    And you are the best.

And I still am against the tokidoki/yahoo purple thing.

  35. Jenn says:

To each his (or her) own. I just think it’s better this kind of collab instead of tokidoki doing something with Microsoft. Now THAT I would consider a huge sell out.

I’m digging the colors and the shirt. I haven’t been too much a fan of the recent tokidoki designs so this really caught my eye. Shipping is on the pricey side because of UPS, but I haven’t been shopping in a while so a splurge may be in order.

American Apparel shirts tend to run on the smaller side, and they tend to shrink. But they are of good quality. I have a shirt from them that has lasted about three years now.

I’m just thinking that first shirt would be really cute with a denim mini skirt, lol.

  36. Katie says:

    wow he looks cool there

ant i want that cactus pup shirt! omg!
    xD

  37. kirsten says:

you don’t have to go to the awefully frustrating yahoo site to purchase their shirts/onesie….. you can go straight there with this link and no crazy flash mess. http://companystore.yahoo.com/purple-edition-tokidoki.html

  38. serena says:

I actually first saw the collaboration when I visited the company store last week. I’m a contractor there, and I was super surprised (and delighted) to see tokidoki there. I bought the sandy shirt immediately. :D I really wanted the bastardino one, but too bad it was only in kids and baby sizes. Hehe.

  39. Poki-Mumi says:

I love the Purple-T’s, I thought maybe it was going to a cause.

  40. dangster says:

annie, what exactly is making you so “pissed” at this collaboration? As Stephanie pointed out, it’s not much different than the collabs with Hello Kitty, Lesportsac, etc.

In addition, Yahoo employees are not more “overpaid” than employees at, say, Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Apple, Oracle, etc. I have friends at all 6 companies, and I work at one of them myself. People in tech (especially in those 6 companies) generally command higher salaries than those in other industries. That’s just how the tech industry is.

  41. ashley says:

    dangster- Word.

  42. iris says:

i love love LOVE the color purple and am so happy see something in the tokidoki line in that color. i actually just received mine today and i love it =)

  43. Susan says:

    I LOVE PURPLE!!!

And I had that song “start wearing purple” from the vid on my myspace months ago, lol!

  44. equanimity says:

I just got this shirt and love it! =)

    Yahoo! rocks!

  45. Dor says:

I want one of these shirts, but I don’t want to pay for shipping from LA to Sunnyvale- Yahooland. Is there a Yahoo Co. Store in Sunnyvale? I’m not in tech, I’m in medical devices.
